Guys on the hunting shows do it the day before their hunt, doesn't seem to effect them.

I would do it ASAP, but it's still 4 weeks away. So you should be okay, just do the minimum.

trim away, but be careful to not destroy the background that hides you from the sky

we hunt out of treestands in Idaho every year and set stands when we get there and hunt them the next morning, you will be just fine. Like was said before just make sure you dont over-trim you will stick out like a sore thumb!

I spend a lot of time patterning deer with camera's and usually pick out my stand spot and trim shooting lanes fairly last minute. If you are diligent with your scent control you could trim a tree as you climb it to hunt. A few years ago I blazed a small trail into the "perfect" tree about 2 days before the late archery season opener and on the evening of opening day I had 3 of 4 does and Mr bigs use that same trail to get into the clearing I was set up on. They don't memorize what branches are laying where and don't care unless they can smell you. Higher is better 17-20 ft. Good luck.

Did the game camera thing for 3 months and put up a tree stand yesterday. Hope to put up another one today. This is my first year back to bow hunting, my last year was '06. Now that I'm back to the East side I can get a jump on the season. Back when I lived here I didn't use game camera's, I would see where I deer were moving up until a day or two before season then put up my stand. I shot deer and a bear the day I put them up. Had a buddy shoot an elk 6hrs after hanging a stand over a wallow.
