About ten years ago I thought up a great idea to sit in a treestand during the blacktail rut in an area that I knew had big bucks.  My dad was off about 500 yards to my right trying to push some deer my way and ended up jumping a buck.  He took a shot but missed clear as day, but in doing so jumped a herd of elk that was bedded between me and him.  They just single filed right to me and literally went directly below the tree I was in.  I could of jumped out and landed on any of them.  The last one was a decent 5x5.  Was one of the neatest experiences of my hunting career.  It would of been very easy to take any of those elk with a gun or a bow.  Point is, I don't see why using a treestand would be any different with elk than it would be with deer.  Go for it

Last year I was in a tree stand and got held hostage.  The elk had been coming into my stand to lick the salt lick for a long time.  My stand was in prime shooting location.  But for some reason the elk came in a different way and I was stuck.  I wish I would of been on the ground.
