nice catch and yes your right chill everyone,its supposed to be fun right,if its not fun dont do it lol  on a side note i havnt been tangled with anyone yet and ive fished right next to some real rookies  they even chucked theyre whole pole in the water 3 or 4 times casting (that made the whole day even better in my book).

  Where I was there was a husband wife combo who were very green right next to me. The wife could only cast about 30-40' so her drifts were really really short and instead of waiting she would just cast away right over top of 4 or 5 people. Then the guys casting 30 yards up stream tangling up with everyone and getting pissed when they got tangled as well as the guys who let their rig drift all the way down until it nearly hits the line of people before reeling it in. All in all its a great time and very comical watching two people hung up on each other thinking they just hooked into a masher!!!! I also love the guy who thinks that every fish he hooks is a silver!!! one guy must have yelled "Silver on!!! COMMING DOWN" 15 times and not one was a silver, just a pink snagged in the tail or back. If you can be patient it is one of the funniest times a person can have fishing, hell you don't even have to fish, just sit back and watch the show!

I did get to net a 9 year olds first salmon ever. I felt bad because her dad was at the bank landing a fish and I know he would have loved to net it for her but she was so excited and had lost 5 or 6 already that we had to make sure that she landed this one. I've never in my life seen someone so excited, the whole line of fisherman damned near stopped to watch her for 5 minutes.

Great story i bet she will tell all her friends in school about it too.

Just a note: This is pink salmon fishing on the Puyallup. Everyone, please relax a little bit. This is a time when fathers bring their kids and wives down to catch their first salmon. Many people on the line are new and do not know how to fish in a group so please just be patient and help them out. I spent half of my time on the rive netting fish for those around me just to make it a more pleasant day for a few first timers. You are going to get tangled up in someone's line more than once while you are there, take a breath, untangle it and get back to fishing. There is no need to get all worked up and throw a fit like a 5 year old. Also pick up your damned garbage. I brought a full grocery sack of crap out with me on both days. I'm sure it wasn't anyone on here doing it but damn, there is no excuse for the amount of garbage on the bank. That includes fishing line as well. Sorry for the rant, I still always have fun down there, I just wish there weren't people who took it quite so serious and tried to make it more of a positive fishing experience for the youngsters and first timers.

I mostly fish a spot that fits maybe 10 or so anglers. The crowd turns over , but is mostly regulars. Garbage is still bad - especially all of the line that ends up on the bank,  wrapped on the snags and in the water- balls and miles of it. I've been bringing out a garbage bag of line and trash every time I go down. Wish others would do the same.

Haven't had too many issues with the crowd. Exception- brought my son yesterday, who is not super experienced at that type of fishing. We fished for about 2 hours with no problems. Finally he hooks something that appeared to be bigger than what we were catching. It got downstream on him, and he fought it for awhile before it pulled loose. Old geezer down below us got all pissy because he had to not cast for two minutes and then didn't move his line out of the way when my kid was reeling in causing a minor tangle... really, dude....get a life!

I took a little dude down with me last night.  He is a total of 5' 4"....  He just waded out in shorts, tennis shoes and a jacket.  He hooked up many times and one went into the line of fishermen and one dude was yelling at him to control his fish.  I had him trying to turn the fish but sometimes they have a mind of themselves.

I told the person who was yelling at him to wade out further in the water as the show was not exciting enough and that he was using 20 lb main line and 20 lb leader.  (He used my son's pole)  The person got all upset.  I was laughing and so was my friend.  The fish came unbuttoned and we continued fishing. 

I hooked another and walked down river to get it out of the way.  He said he was going to kick the crap out of my friend.  I got the fish and then pulled my wallet out.  I said I would put all the money in my wallet on the little guy over you and your two friends.  He is a bad little fellow to mess with as he is a black belt in four different variations of martial arts.  And he is not waring any waders like the three of you.  My parting words were lets have fun fishing he is a beginner lets not spoil it.

They ended up being OK after that.

Ya, you got to be prepared for some guys to be belligerent. My son and I have been hitting it all weekend long, and have seen some pretty good entertainment down there. It's kind of funny when you see 6 people involved in being tangled and trying to net a fish!! Most people Iv'e seen are pretty decent and patient with others. Usually if someone is getting a crappy attitude, 6-7 other anglers will suggest to that guy that he move instead of expecting everyone to get out of his way. If you get a nice king or silver on, then I understand you're going to get a little excited, but most fish caught are pinks, and there are plenty to go around right now.

I get too anxious over the yelling matches that by the time the fish really start rolling in, I'm already clocked-out of the river. I just can't stand some grumpy old man yelling at me or around me, or even if I think he's yelling at me

Not humpies, kings. I don't fish the nisqually for pinks. Its all the same though as far as bickering goes. Too many people getting mad over nothing and having absolutely no patience.
Like for example, someone will cast over me outa turn... Ok no big deal, they'll go oh crap sorry. Me - Hey no problem, while the guy next to me turns into an ass like HEY ARE YOU BLIND DONT CAST OUT OF TURN.
Its like wtf? Is that necessary? I've opened my mouth tons of times at the rivers, but its usually towards the a-holes that have no respect and want to be dicks to everyone.
And if someone IS repeatedly doing something wrong, casting out of turn, casting over lines, using braided - and does not know any better. Yelling sure doesnt help, Walk up to them and explain how river fishing works. Its a whole different breed of fishing then in a lake or something. I just did that last week to two youngsters who were out there with 6 foot rods in shorts just casting over and over and over. They didnt make the mistake the rest of the day, they kindly waited untill the drift was over and casted.
And let me add, they landed more fish then I did that day.  Hope they learned a thing or two.

I don't know, I can't think which would be worse

A) actually spending gas money on both boat and truck, dealing with the same mentality fishing for them on the salt and the boat ramps.
or
B) finding one of the many unoccupied locations on the Puyallup and getting your limit,  or seeing kids catch their first fish and laughing at the people getting bent out of shape.

I pay more for my monthly cable bill, LOL
