seasons fast approaching!
« on: August 05, 2013, 03:17:02 AM »
Im pretty stoked for this year, last year I had my guns, dekes, blind bag, ammo and about 200$ stolen from me the night before the opener, I was so mad I didnt even hunt, everything but the ammo and money was eventually recovered though  :yike:

ive been shooting more, buying up all that "essential" gear, and combing over every hunting dvd, magazine, website and book that I own just itching to get out and call in them birds.

Who else is READY!!!

I'm always ready 24/7/365 my boat has a covered cargo hold that my dekes stay in all year.  There are even shells in sealed boxes so I never for get to bring them.  Just have to throw lunch, the dog(he gets the stiches out today)and the gun in.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Not ready but excited for this yr! Picked up a 13ft Livingston this spring and plan on painting it and building a blind as well as get a bigger motor for running the river to get out to some good bird spots! Lots of work ahead of me the next couple months!

Its been on my mind lately, mostly because I may miss the opener for the first time in 23 seasons due to ML elk season. My group has 3 cow tags to try an fill so we will likely hunt all week right up to the duck opener. Its gonna hurt to miss a duck opener but to eat elk all year it will be worth it. Good luck to all this season!

plenty of times for duck hunting, get them elk!

ive narrowed down my list of self issued honey do's;

re-rig my 2 dozen mallard decoys
purchase and rig a dozen or more coots
purchase some singles to mix my mallard spread up some
paint boat (low priority)
go threw the motor, new water pump, plugs etc
new waders needed
finish 11-87 coating and restore project
purchase or fab a game cart
install new vents, tires and bedding in camper,
fix leak in shower lines on camper
and last but not least

Shoot some clays!

should keep me pretty busy right up to the middle of sept, get a bear hunt in and then sit and count the seconds...

I don't know if I will be waterfowling this year with the wedding and all. Been a couple times with my uncle but he moved to Alaska so I really have to spend he time and money getting decoys and he essentials  before I get to go again.

Getting my gear down this weekend, too danged hot to do much else during the day over here.
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.

Watching new hunting videos, checking crops, re clean the gun cause i miss the smell of gun oil, looking at every flying bird sizing up Leeds, looking through past seasons highlight photos, that smell early morning on the river that just screams falls a comin! , the fading interest in golf giving way to downrigger releases and what the tides like tomorrow. Which leads to opening day... whats the tide on opener? moon overhead? underfoot? take the boat? head east? maybe the field? whom i hunting with?  will the snow geese be down with good numbers for opener? will it even be a good snow goose hatch this year? will the leases produce like last year? whats spinach seed, and will ducks still like that spot? what kind of winter weather will we have on the west side? will it be colder? or wet and mild minus a couple weeks like last year? what about the east side?
In other words Anticipation is an understatement, the sound of whistling wings over head, being froze in an instant from it with straining eyes through my forehead, and my wet chocolate doing the same. WoW, i cant wait, so exited

Still too far away!! I've been waiting for season to start since last season ended

My lab doesn't understand why we stopped hunting. He knows the weather is changing.
He is new to the game, after 8 yrs living in a crate.
It's his 2nd childhood.
Last week he brought me a deke from the spare bag. His eyes were pleading to go.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!
