Hunting plans
« on: October 22, 2008, 08:49:42 AM »
I just found out that they are cutting the corn around one of the fields I hunt!! Unfortunately I have to travel to go to a wedding this weekend. I guess I will have to take Friday off :chuckle:

Does anyone else have hunting plans this weekend?

Gamblin Guy,  we own ground around Colfax and our pheasant hunters all limited opening weekend.   There are a few birds around if you are willing to work for them and have access to good private land.

i'll go out a few times but not for a couple of weeks. I'll see what happens and if the birds are as scarce as I think they are it'll be on to coyotes.

JJ,

I have to deliver fish to a farmer, my way of saying thanks for access.  It's not exclusive access but they are good people, I've been taking them fish for several years.  We'll be a little west of Colfax, we'll keep our fingers crossed for a few birds.

We get a lot of fish, too :) :)  That is my hometown and I am related to half the county so they are probably kin.  Good luck!

It's probably over done, but they seem to enjoy it.  I cant afford to lease ground so I figure it's the least I can do.  My son shot his first rooster there last year, we make at least one trip a year regardless of the number of birds just to visit.

I sent you a pm.  I will be there on Friday night, but am leaving early a.m. for a Montana deer hunt.  Hopefully your son gets a few more notches in his gunbelt.

Hey JJ, did you get to have any fun with the roadhunters? I was wondering about that.

You know, it wasn't too bad this year.  I think that gas prices made roadhunting a little too expensive.   I caught a couple guys with rifles over the hood, one guy was "taking pictures" in Blaze orange, etc.  Always a little comical.   I always try to be nice, but at the same time, let them know that I could be around any corner.  It usually does the trick.  I always kinda feel for them when there are three or four legal bucks feeding 100 yards off the road and they can't shoot.  I have been on the other end of that, so I have some sympathy.

Have to say you handle it alot nicer than I would if I was in your position. Good luck to you in Montana. Stay safe.  BTW I didnt mean to hijack this thread.
