Mule deer
« on: August 07, 2013, 07:15:22 PM »
Hi all, I have never gone after mule deer before and want to get after them this year.  I have only hunted black tails.  What units would be good for a beginner to access and have a good possibility of running into some.  Any help would be great.
Thanks!

Any of the Okanogan GMU's, from Winthrop east, will have the most mule deer, and the most people. Any east side unit will have a few though.

Wenatchee area is a great place, during the late hunt. I personally love all the eniat, swakane, chiwawa, manson, alta units. However during regular season you will find more hunters than legal deer, . 89% of Mule deer in these units are migratory, so only 11% of the deer are locals. Be prepared to try and put eye guards on some two pointers, but you you must get off the road to know!

get off, i repeat, get off the road.  IMO 90% of hunters in WA state are road hunters.

Pick up a topo map for the winthrop area.  pick a good area and go explore.

did I mention, get off the road. stay out for more than two hours in the morning.  stay out all day.. big bucks like to come out in the middle of the day :)
It is what you meant it to be...

Yes they do. Most of my bucks have been killed between 10:30 and 2:30
