Which season would you hunt
« on: August 27, 2013, 03:34:49 PM »
Any of you guys hunt area 124 with archery during firearms season?  I would think that the dates for the late firearms season are closer to the rut than during the archery season. Would appreciate your info.  I have a very small property that would not be competing with guns.

Archery season gives you 10 more days to hunt. Rifle season is definitely closer to the rut. I'd probably hunt the rifle season if I had the choice. Do you have the multi season tag?

Im going to try 124 during the Modern season with archery tackle so I can be hunting closer to the rut. Also I dearly love hunting with my Dad so this seems to be the best compromise. I wouldnt try this on public land, but not to say you couldnt take a great animal.  I dont think having to wear orange is that much of a hindrance if your hunting a quiet piece of private land. I know I am alot more aware of where I step, noise, moving slow ect. when I am carrying a bow vs. rifle.  There are alot of guys that hunt with archery EQ during firearm seasons and they consistently tag good deer.   I think the intensity of the rut would make up for the shortcomings  of a bow.   :twocents:

Thanx for the input.  I don't have a multi season tag.  I think it's a lot more fun closer to the rut, being able to call and rattle.  The problem where I am is that the bucks seem to be gone at this time, rumor is they head over the hill towards Long Lake. It seems to me that as long as the does stay there should be bucks.  I am going to try the firearms season, hopefully the bucks that are here will show up in daylight, seems to be biggest problem.
