my dog has spent a bunch of time at the canine country club in fall city, they breed labs and train gun dogs and do a good job from what i've heard. they also board. we did obedience through joan fetty in woodinville. she runs positive dog training and she also does gun dog training.(or used to at least). she runs(or used to at least) the rainier hunting retriever club which if i remember correctly is a club that specifically focuses on upland hunting with retriever style dogs. they do hunt tests at cherry valley and stillwater i think if you google positive dog training woodinville you'll find her info.

Yesterday The Olympain had an full page spread about hunt tests. They had pictures of dogs doing retrieves at the Rainier Hunting Retriever Club in Carnation. They give the website for the club as
www.rainierhrc.com
You should be able to get some trainer info from the links off of that website.

I'd add to miles comments to at least get the pup to the kenmore range or where ever you choose to go and shoot and hang out while they're shooting clays. get him used to the gun shots while he's a young pup. i'd just walk around distracting my dog for a while till he calmed down and eventually and gradually make my way to where he was sitting and staying as close to the firing line as i was allowed to go. take him out grouse hunting even if he's leashed and walking with you. just getting him in the woods learning the sights and smells will help. just don't let him take on any bad habits like letting him play with the birds. IMO.

..I do a little hunting down in your neck of the woods. My roommates parents own a private waterski lake in Maytown. About 2 miles from Farm Boy. Its on 80 acres and the lake is 1/4mile wide X 1/2mile long!! Pretty much the only "secret" place i go!

I just looked at the website for Joan Fetty and its about 10 min away from my house!
Looks like a good place to start with OB training. They have puppy classes to help with the basics of OB.
THANKS AGAIN!!!!!

... Did you take your dog there for OB training??
So where do you hunt at? Down in the valley or do you try to get out of town?

Casey, I think I know exactly where that waterski lake is. It is only about a mile from here.
Have you ever tried a FarmBoy burger? Those are really good. Their milkshakes are good too.
Good luck with your pup. My lab is 12 now and I should have gotten professional dog training help when he was younger. He thinks he own me instead of the other way around.

Yeah its pretty close to the freeway. Just take a right on Reiter(at the the firestation) then its just down the road.
Yeah we eat at farm boy all the time! We spend alot of time at the lake during the summer wakeboarding!

yes, a couple different puppy obedience classes. they're very good. i do not hunt in the valley, i do not wish to be shot. maybe only when it floods and i can take my little boat out and get away from people, but usually then there's so much water, it's hard to know where the birds will be IMO.
i head out of town 99% of the time.

Different waterski lake than what I was thinking of. I didn't know there was one over there.
