Beaver Trap
« on: October 23, 2008, 04:42:14 AM »
Greetings all!!  Lots of good information and discussion that are entertaining and informative.

I haven't trapped beaver in over 25 years when the ole Coniber 330 was my best system for beaver.  Now with cage traps only, I am a bit stumped when it comes to beaver and forking over 300-400 bucks each for one of those suitcase live catch beaver traps.  There are alot of naive beaver, I mean alot of beaver!, and was wonderig if just your plain old cage/box trap would work, given the correct placement, bait and lure.

I am hoping to get a response from some of the west side trappers that put up alot of beaver each year. (According to the trapping harvest statistics, some of you do quite well)

Land owners have already been contacting me to remove as many as I want, but after the waterfowl season ends in January 09.  Alot of beaver!!!!!

I know some beaver are caught using the suitcase traps, but I venture to say MOST of those beaver in the stats are still taken with the 330.  That is what I still use for the landowners here. You can apply for and use the banned traps in a nusiance situation.  On the WDFW they have a link to the application, you fill it out and usually within a few days you'll have your permit.

Thanks for the response, but I want to be able to sell the raw fur, and the raw fur taken under a nuisance permit cannot be sold.  Still looking for a more economical method than a suitcase trap.

Tan the fur and then sell it, perfectly legal and actually you can make more money then selling raw fur.
