Manashtash fires!
« on: August 12, 2013, 10:57:52 AM »
I was up manashtash yesterday and spoke to DNR. He said three fire were burning from the lightning on Friday and Saturday. Two are in tamarack spings and one over by wiskey flats. Didn't sound like he was too concerned but there were three engines heading up when we were heading out. Lets hope they get those out fast!!

Man it seems most of my units I hunt elk in are a blaze. Hopefully the crews can get them knocked out before it gets way out of hand.

Word on the street is they are of no concern. Seems like they didn't amount to anything.
:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Better not be... screw it, it might be kind of cool to shoot an elk on fire.

Actually, a good burn might do some of that area good.

was there on Friday and Saturday left Sunday morning and didn't see much smoke or hear anything about them. i even asked the park ranger at taneum creek . saw a good bunch of elk in the usual spots. the lightning was pretty spectacular on Friday and sat night though.

Park ranger? Taneum Creek? I wonder what the heck a park ranger was doing there? The guy must have been lost.  :dunno:

We called in a fire last weekend near tamarack springs that the forest service came in and put out. On the other hand I wouldn't mind finding a medium rare cow to throw my tag on and have dinner in the field  :chuckle:

Was all over this area from Sunday to Tuesday, bottom of the 3330 to the top of Quartz, down the 112 up to Tamarack and out Watt Canyon to the feed station and never saw or smelled smoke  :dunno: Saw a few crew trucks, but no one was in much of a hurry. Left Tuesday under blue bird skies...can't wait to get back!

Was up yesterday and called in a fire below Lilly pond in milk creek drainage.  Forest service was surprised and thanked us.  Passed 5 rigs of guys heading up when we were on our way out.
