how hard to blow a call?
« on: August 12, 2013, 08:16:02 PM »
I have always been curious how hard is to hard to blow on a predator call. Sometimes I feel like I'm blowing way to hard.
I have searched online but never seem to come up with an answer.  :dunno:

When I'm predator calling I blow on my call as hard and long as I can. When I'm calling I like to imagine I'm sitting right in front of a rabbit being toren apart and how I imagine it would sound. Something must be working cause I've called in more than one predator.

Do you wear ear plugs?  Some of those calls will ring your ears.

That's usually how I do it.

I always start off soft, just in the off chance I have slipped in close to one.  Can you imagine sleeping and then all the sudden 40 yards away someone starts screaming.     :yike:  :chuckle:  After about a minute I start increasing the volume until I am as loud and with as much emotion as I can put into the call.

Yep.  Start soft and bring it up after a few minutes. If I'm not splittin' reeds I'm not calling hard enough.

I'm leavin a couple hours for the Coast. This time i get to hunt excited. What the last three great caller's said soft then put emotion in it. Using your hands working the exaust. It will sound like a bear cub at times. Made a special call for me it's killer. Rick
