High Buck Hunt *Poll Question *
« on: August 12, 2013, 11:58:03 PM »
I  hunted Alpine Lakes last year and will likely try the Pasayten this year. I am curious on how many out there hunt this season as it is a more demanding and difficult hunt.

That is what I thought:)  it is the kind of hunting I enjoy best and am glad there is a season for it. I spent a lot of time in SE Alaska and early alpine hunting was the best "hunting" experience. Later there was the "harvest" but working for it in the mountains was the most rewarding.

Tried for a new area in Glacier wilderness area based on google and bing. 1.5 miles off trail 4k feet. Two scouting trips and I keep getting cliffed out 1-1.5k below the prime area. Might have to settle on a plan B until I can find a do-able route.

I ran into that last year in Alpine Lakes. I Google scouted it an glassed it from a road and hen when I got up there I was boulder hell and cliffs. It was a good trip bough and ended up with a very nice bear on the way down as a consolation...  Saw 0 deer and 4 bear on the trip.   Saw some mondo deer tracks in the area though.

Kinda funny, I am actually making bear burger jerky from it as  type...

Yep, figure a control number is needed. I was really fishing for a cross section of hunters and really curious about the overall hunting numbers for the forum.

The less people that hunt this season the better for me. I really like to see people hunting but like to have some solitude when I am out. I don't really know what the numbers will show in the end but find the overall percentages interesting.

In my opinion this is the best hunt offered  by WDFW and look forward to hunting it until my legs give out.

I'm not sure I agree with the best hunt offered by Wdfw.  I enjoy being able to be in the mountains in September with a gun but there are many other hunts that are better IMO.

I should have qualified it as best General Season, non-drawing hunts. There are a lot of good hunts out there but not during a general season (rifle). Archery has some good opportunities and I may start leaning that way but still prefer to hunt with a gun.

I had pulled up the hunter reports in the past but they slipped my mind when I was thinking of this this season. Thanks for the reminder.

Hmmm.  Is it possible to check the harvest results for the various wilderness areas only?  Specifically, is there a way to see how hunters fared in the High Country Buck Hunts, by wilderness area?  I know how to research each GMU, and the special tags, but I didn't know that the wilderness area buck hunt results were split out.  If there is a way, please tell me how to do this.

I can't speak for the central Cascades wilderness high buck hunts, but I really doubt that the Olympic wilderness areas get much action. :twocents:

you cant break it down by just the high hunt. but most people who rifle hunt those units hunt the early season. so it gives you some idea.
