Hunting Backpack

If we have to wear so much blaze orange, why are backpacks all in camo?

I'm looking for a deer hunting backpack but all I see is camo.

Any recommendations?

Cabelas new Elite scout pack has a big Built in Blaze cover that rolls down and secures at the bottom, same with the gun/bow pack or any of there new packs. pretty sweet, and simple

I think most packs nowadays have some sort of orange flag tucked away on them.

Great question. I often hunt with less than the required square inches of orange because of my camo backpack being over my orange vest.

I just take my chances and haven't been cited yet. But an orange pack would be a good idea. I'm just too cheap to buy another pack just to have one in a different color.

I highly doubt your going to see a orange eberlestock, Kifaru,BC etc buy a cheap orange vest and put over pack if your worried about it

I've just honestly never worried about it.  I've hunted with a Cabela's elite scout pack for years, and never unrolled that orange flag.  This year will be using a Stone Glacier Approach pack while hunting, and again, will not worry about it.   I have a lot of respect for the job a Game warden has to do, but they have got to be feeling pretty damn ticky tack if he is going to write a citation for something like that.

I bought a Eberlestock scabbard end that's insanely orange that sticks up around my head from my pack.

Agree with what others have said about many packs having an orange panel that can be used, or like Eli said, put some orange flagging tape on it if you're concerned. I believe the rules state that you must have a total of 400 square inches, above the waist,  and visible from all sides. So a few pieces of flagging tape on the back of your pack, along with a vest would meet the requirement.

On the packs that I have, if there is an orange panel, it is made of nylon or some other noisy type of material, so I would not use it unless I'm packing out an animal.

Never use oarange in archery season...camo pack is great.

Go to Jo-Ann fabrics and buy a yard of fleece or cotton in bright orange for $3-5.  You can hang as much orange off of your pack as you want.
