Wife green lights new hunting rifle! T3 or Remington??
« on: August 13, 2013, 06:00:48 PM »
So I got the 'go for it' for a new hunting rifle next month for my birthday  :IBCOOL: I have been shooting a Remington Model 700BDL wood stock with a Leupold 3x9 VXII in 30.06 for 12 years now. It has been a decent gun for a first hunting rifle but it's time for a change, I would like to go stainless steel and synthetic stock this go round.... I was a carbine guy before I got into hunting and hunting rifles were a bit of a learning experience for me (not overheating the barrel especially) I went a little Lee Harvey when I first bought my current gun....oops. I would like to give my current gun to my son when he gets out of the Army so now is as good a time as any to upgrade!

I have been doing some research and am torn between sticking with Remington or going to a Tikka T3? I can't find many bad reviews on the Tikka but a lot of reviews saying that Remington's have really fallen off over the years? So, I guess my question would be, if it were your birthday and your choice, what would you choose and why? I will be sticking with the 30.06 as I just love the versatility of the caliber! Thanks in advance for any input

Call up benchmark in Arlington and say you want a new Remington in 06 stainless.

It sounds like you already have a great gun. If it still shoots solid and you want a more durable finish nitride the barrel and action and pull off the old stock and put a good aftermarket on it. :twocents:

I had almost this same debate with myself 5 years ago. But with a .270 win. caliber. I finally choose the T3 and it has sat in my safe every since. Never shot more than a few rounds playing around with it. Just can't pull myself away from the bow.  :bash:

multi-season tag......I know, I know, I will still use bow most of the modern and definetly muzzle season.

Oh yeah.........lets try the Tikka

Waiting for BiggerHammer to weigh in...

But I vote for the T3 stainless lite.  Have one in 270wsm and although I'm a wood stock nut, I love this gun for mountain hunting.  Smoothest bolt at the price point bar none.

Why not look at other mfg like Savage or Browning or even Winchester? All make good reliable bolt actions. I have at least  1 of all of them except a Savage. I would go with a 300WSM instead of the 06, just as versatile but a little more so.

Just kidding get a Rem .06  :chuckle:

I have a couple of both brands and will always pick up one of the  Remingtons before the tikas.   :twocents:

Have her make the decision. That way you're clear. I'd go Savage myself. I have all 3 and like the Savages a lot better.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Remington and a Manners stock upgrade. Might as well add a trigger while you're at it. Done deal.

Neither. Browning, Howa, Savage in that order you should buy something worth what you pay for it.

Tikka vote here, mainly for the "out of box" accuracy and very light weight. If you hike a lot when hunting you will feel the difference.
