Keep your rifle, put a good stock on it, bed it, if a smith can do it quick enough put a new barrel on it, then have it cerekoted for weather.

Son gets current rifle...

we're not all as macho ;). In the high country, light weight coupled with accuracy wins in my book every time.

I already know that Mtn Man., glad that's cleared up. I'm not speaking for the others. ;) Light is over rated, if one can't hack it. Get of the sofa, lay off the fast food or take up knitting. :chuckle:

I agree.

Put my vote in for remington.

I have never picked up a rifle that looks and feels as cheap as a tikka.  I would be to embarrassed to be seen hunting with a tikka.  I think it would be a lot like using a tasco scope.

I would disagree, his screen name would be "Crapola" if he was leaning the Tikka way. ;)

Well, finally got away from the recovering dogs today and made it down to Cabelas. So far I think I'm going with the Remington XCR although I did like the SPS but they didn't have one in stainless. I held the Tikka and it was intriguing for sure! I don't think it felt "cheap", it was definitely light! I did handle a couple Savage rifles because they are on sale right now for next to nothing but it wasn't a connection....

Strolled through the used rifles, most of the good ones were 300 Win Mags? Too much gun for folks I guess? The couple 30.06's they had were either Savages or kinda rough. Not sure I would opt for used anyways as I prefer NEW when it comes to my guns, unless I personally know the previous owner.

That's the update for now, thanks again for all the input!  pissing contests aside I have found the insight very helpful!
