Gadgets or bust or i want my cake and eat it too.
« on: October 23, 2008, 11:05:36 AM »
It sounds like a lot of todays bow hunters dont hunt archery for the challenge or the closer relationship archery brings between you and your animal. It sounds like you only want the better season it provides. If archery is going the way of high-tec gadgets it no longer is a primitive method of hunting. If hunters push this high tec crap in to arcery you can bet your butt that other regs will change too and I bet you will like those regs less than the ones we have now.

Are you trying to start a feud, man to each his own.  If you cant beatum joinem.  I sense some Jealousy.  I think there are plenty of us bow hunters out there that love the challenge of getting up close and personal and making it all happen in crunch time.  Id just delete this post before it goes to far and everyone gets pissed off.

I too am curious which "gadgets" you are referring too. I did take up archery again because of the challenge it offers. But who's to say that everyone who archery hunts shouldn't use modern archery equipment?

gadgets meaning our fiber optic sights, fall away rests, laser rangefinders that aid in proper shot placement on game... luminoks that help us recover our expensive arrows after a shot... these high tech things  have not had any rules change......... we still get all of sep and either sex in 90% of the units.... it doesnt matter how high tech anything you have is, if you lack the ability to get close to the animal when it counts....... high tech gadgets on bows dont chane wind direction, or make you scent free....... it doesnt matter how good of a shot you are if you cant put yourself into posistion to get a shot........ bowhunting is the only way to hunt IMO... its still and will always be a challenge.. doesnt matter how much technology advances.............

The fact is that we are governed by the Laws & Regulations set forth at this time. Anyone wanting to lobby for changes is certainly welcome to do so. Until changes are made, it does no harm to want, think, dream, etc. about how things could be better.

There is way more harm done by bashing people for their opinions than will ever be done by thinking about change.

Have a good day Gentlemen

I am all for most gadgets. Just not electronics and not scopes on bows or arrows. That's too far. It will negatively impact the length of the season if we permit some of the "advancements" into our sport.

The line in the sand regarding electronics and scoped sights is a sound one which can stand the tests of time and also permit people to harvest their animals using the necessary skills for archery. The archery season is a primitive season to some degree. The basis of the season, justification for it's length and some of the unity which is held among archers is based upon agreeing on what is legally acceptable as well as ethically justifiable. To tilt the odds based upon these sort of technological developments is something which deserves good scrutiny and discussion. This line in the sand (the laws we have in Washington today) is also a good line for Game Wardens to be able to regulate. It is not complex and is very black and white.

The fact is that hundreds of thousands of animals have been harvested without these so called advancements for many years. I believe that archers are capable of living without them in the field and would be better served doing so.

Just because someone makes a case against them doesn't mean it is a discussion to bash other hunters.
