Hey folks!  I'm a new hunter - my daughter and I were hunter certified just this summer.  I have been lurking and following all of dmv9's threads as he seems to be in the same boat.  Thanks for asking so many good questions dmv9!

I decided to start us off on grouse because it seems the barrier to entry is lower than any other type of hunting and the season is pretty long.  I found this in my research: https://nwsportsmanmag.com/secureorders.html#!/~/product/category=1529459&id=7293436.  Does anybody know if it has any useful information?

Grouse season will be here soon enough. Don't forget to look for deer/ deer sign when your out grouse hunting.

I come from a family and social circle that just doesn't hunt or fish or even own guns for the most part so I am making this up as I go - but that's EXACTLY what I was thinking Forrestrover.

That magazine usually has some really great info.
A lot of guys hate that mag because they give away such awesome spots sometimes.  lol...
But be warned. A lot of the time the info and articles they post are from the year before, so they can print stories that are relevant to current seasons.  For instance... if the post a story about how to rattle for black tails, it'll be from an interview the year before.

Same with articles about grouse. They may have a great article about this one awesome spot... but it was probably awesome the year before.

But, I dig their mag. Lots of cool articles. I've even been in it a few times. or... I should say my pictures.
They love getting submissions from readers.
Make sure to send them pics of your first hunt. That would definately make the cut.  ;o)

Yeah, this makes sense...animals move, hunters flock to the hotspots...For me, it's not so much current information as useful information.  Even if I get out to a spot in an almanac and don't stir up any grouse, at least I now know what country I'm looking for.  Reading it in a book is one thing; seeing it is another.  I have gotten some great information from this board and it sounds like this map could be additionally useful.

Hi, I'm the editor of Northwest Sportsman. I checked with our ordering and shipping coordinator this a.m. and she tells me:

"We shipped upland bird tech maps to the following people on 8/15/13 or 8/19/13:

WB (8/19/13)
CS (8/19/13)
DV (8/15/13)
TZ (8/19/13)"

As for the magazine rerunning articles from the year before, I strongly disagree with that notion. My writers are sending me fresh information for each new issue (and to toot our own horn, we just sent our September 2013 issue to press this week, and which should be to guys late next weekish -- when did the competitors hit print on their 9-13 edition?!).

BUT if you see articles in our mag that have appeared the year before, please bring them to my attention, awalgamott@media-inc.com.

For that matter, anytime you guys have questions about orders or whatever, feel free to email me.

Not worth the money. I was expecting more information than just "Snoqualmie, WA". I was looking for go to this ridge or follow the roads off exit 42 to a great spot. Oh well.

here's one free tip of the the week FS land but not in snohomish co haven't seen grouse here in years. dnr land is good by hwy 530.   ya that's a good spot thats called  c post the road is covered in shot shells one bird per shell thats like 10,000 birds a year off 1 road.

I would have to disagree with this also. I have been scouting Mountain Loop, Index, Baring, and Skykomish area for over a month a have seen birds on every trip. Just hope I can find them in a few more days As far a C-Post is concerned... We have a friend that lives 1/4 mile from the turn off. There is a gate right on the other side of the bridge now and the neighbors  come out packing to push people off the land. Apparently some a-hats were just parking on the other side of the bridge and started popping off rounds. If you try to go to C-post, beware.
