Vortex ranger 1000 or leica crf1000
« on: August 14, 2013, 05:52:31 PM »
Wonder what everyone thinks is a better way to go. A vortex ranger 1000 or a leica crf1000 (not ballistics model). The ranger I can get for 350 and the leica for 399. I know the vortex has all the ballistics features but would the older leica make up for it in actual range?

I recently purchased the vortex model seem to be very happy with it I've ranged over a thousand yards in low light. I've used it on 3d trails shooting multiple angles and up 120 yards with my bow and was accurate. I used it to sight my rifle in and shot accurately out to 300 plus. it seems very durable like the lanyard and the clip. it has the mounts for mounting it to a Tripod. however it did seem to struggle a bit in the low fog but I imagine that most rangefinders do have trouble in fog. that's hunting and it can't be perfectso I don't have any info on the other brand but the vortex is nice especially with a lifetime warranty no matter what

I recommend the vortex rangefinder. I'm extremely happy with mine and have had no issues with it yet.

What is the farthest you have ranged a deer with the vortex?   Their web page says 500 yds max.

Vortex is an awesome range finder.  I picked one up after months of research.   I hit a non reflective target across a canyon at 880 yrds free hand.

Wow! 880 is awesome!  So far I'm leaning toward vortex. I've read a ton on both but still having a hard time deciding.

I'd seriously consider this one for your budget. . . Cabelas has it on sale right now, $350.  I picked one up the other day.

It has some ballistics stuff in it, but I haven't taken the time to figure that out.  More than likely won't use anyways. So far I've ranged out to 1230 yards on a rock face in a slide, and regularly get mid 900's on trees.  I wouldn't worry about actually ranging a deer.  You won't be able to hold steady on it anyways more than likely. Range something around it and adjust a few yards in the necessary direction and call it good.   :twocents:
