Triplets

Morning surprise I have seen the doe and one fawn off and on last few weeks, but did not realize she had three!

We have quite a few deer that we feed here in northeastern washington and every year one of the does die and her fawns will usually be picked up by one of the other does that only has a single fawn. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but more than likely one of them isn't hers.

I was just going to suggest that same scenario. It looks like the fawn closest to mom is larger that the other 2 fawns. Orphan fawns perhaps? oh, by the way hi RB

Especially if they are in gmu's 117 and 121.

They will also "babysit".  I once glassed a small basin in Wyoming (June or early July), where 3 cows were running daycare for 55 elk calves.  The behavior is called creching.

Yeah it's crazy how much of a maternal instinct they have.

I've called in mule deer does with fawn distress even when they have their two fawns with them.

I seem to have a few around my place in Arlington too. All the traffic and strip malls haven't run them off yet. Used to be a lot of bear around here too, but not so many anymore.

A few years back (the year of the meat hunt) almost all of the does in the Methow had twins and triplets. I had never seen so many triplets. Of course most were wiped out in the youth any deer hunt that year.
