G5 Montec practice tips
« on: August 16, 2013, 12:09:27 PM »
Do any of you guys that shoot the G5 Montecs use the dummy heads when practicing? I am thinking about buying a pack of them so that I save my actual heads but not sure if it is worth it.

That's the head I shoot when I use the "Training wheels."     I just shoot a couple old heads.

this is my first year using the montecs so I was thinking I could use the practice heads to start. Did they fly the same as the real ones?

Right on. How about what they do to your target? Do they come out easy or how does that go? I have a field tip/broadhead ready target.

I use them work really good. Put couple in a tree and was able to dig them out and keep on shooting. After a while will tear up target, no worse than shooting broadheads.

I hunt with the G5's and was going to get the practice heads three years ago when I switched but the practice ones were very close to the same price as the real ones ! It didn't make sense so I just bought an extra pack of real ones for practice. I was also worried about them flying the same but practicing with the real deal alleviated that.

They shoot very close. I ran them side by side for years.

Personally, I'd think you'd be a fool to spend the same amount of money on 3 practice Montecs, when you can shop around on the internet, and find 3 new real Montecs for the same price or cheaper.  All you have to do, it sharpen them back up and you have 3 back up broadheads. :twocents:

I picked some up yesterday and shot them last night. I have a broadhead/fieldtip target but had to unscrew the heads each time to get the arrows out. Is that normal?

Nope.  Not normal at all if the target is designed for broadheads.

I didn't think so either but didn't know since they are practice tips if it made a difference.

Shoot a broadhead into it and see.

I was hoping to keep the broadheads as sharp and nice as I can by not shooting them into a target, thus the practice tips but I might have to shoot them just to see.
