Calling from a tree stand
« on: August 18, 2013, 09:46:06 AM »
Does anyone call from a tree stand here? I was wondering if the elk will look up if you are calling from up high and they are in close.

I've called them in from far away from a tree stand & it is amazing how they come right to the base of the tree looking for the elk.  The way they pin point the sound location is awesome.  I don't call when they are close or even move, I just let them mill around . I'm sure they would pick you off from the movement and also look up for the sound location. I would call to bring them in & then cut it off.  Maybe get a Montana decoy to set up behind your tree setup ?

I only call if I hear elk, and I use it sparingly. If they get close I stfu. I let my gut tell me what too close is.

I've called in many elk from my stand.  If you can see the elk don't call or maybe just a chirp or two.

I only call if I have at least 3G service. Roaming charges will kill you.  :chuckle:

Like the rest of the guys, I call till I see or feel they are to close then stop calling and get ready. If they look like they are gonna bolt give a short quite chirp in the opposite direction to respark the interest. I have had good luck doing this fees cows and spikes I had come pretty close. Good luck just remember don't over call.
