Cougar without dogs, bait, or snow?

Ok, so is there any way to really focus on cougar hunting without dogs bait or snow? I know calling is always the an option but blind calling... beyond depressing at times, haha. Any tips?

You can bait cougars.

If your in shape, blast audio recorded hounds and follow tracks in snow. Find a hot cut and i think i guy could be successful hunting lion that way

What!?! LOL. I wouldn't even of shared that if i was still in the state, I know it will work and i wanted to be the first to do it. You might have to walk/run a bit, but i know you could tree a lion that way

   I've barked quite a few bear and coons in a tree with my own voice. Should work on a cat if you find the right one and get close.

You can bait cougars.

But the problem trying to bait cougar out of the winter season is that you'll end up with other animals, probably bear eating your bait.

Is baiting cougars really still legal? 

This makes it sound like any intentional feeding to attract them or other "Large carnivores" as it says isn't legal, doesn't specify like the RCW for Negligent feeding where it has to cause a public safety risk or potential one, it just says they can't be feed to attract them to any land or building?

Would really suck to be out there, thinking you are good to go and get nailed....

Intentionally feeding or attempting to feed large wild carnivores or intentionally attracting large wild carnivores to land or a building — Penalty.
 

(1) A person may not intentionally feed or attempt to feed large wild carnivores or intentionally attract large wild carnivores to land or a building.

     (2) A person who intentionally feeds, attempts to feed, or attracts large wild carnivores to land or a building is guilty of a misdemeanor.

     (3) A person who is issued an infraction under RCW 77.15.790 for negligently feeding, attempting to feed, or attracting large wild carnivores to land or a building, and who fails to contain, move, or remove the food, food waste, or other substance within twenty-four hours of being issued the infraction, is guilty of a misdemeanor.

Wrong law........with the intent to hunt, or for the purpose of hunting.  Its still legal for cougar.

Reason I asked was because I do not see an exclusion in there for hunting.   It just says intentional feeding to attract them...that is my concern.

Is there another RCW or WAC that covers feeding them and allowing for hunting purposes?  Would be good to have that information just in case.

It was all over here last year.....cant remember the particulars, just the end result.  It had nothing to do with hunting, rather those that fed coons and such having problems because of other animals coming in/habituating to hand outs and requiring wdfw assistance.  More about dealing with urban wildlife problems.

I wouldn't imagine successful Cougar baiting - you'll have 100 bears/yotes/wolves and the cats won't come around.

Birds, anything with feathers

Stillborn calves.  Dairy farmers have to pay to have them hauled off.  It does work.

Beaver is really good.   Befriend a trapper that isn't interested in the carcasses at all.   Goodluck though, as they will use it for other stuff.

I have treed multiple cats, but you have to stay on them.  It isn't for the faint of heart, and really it requires some snow or frost.   Cats aren't the easiest thing to track(no snow or even with snow sometimes), and you need to stay in motion to catch them.  Pay attention,( its easy to get focused on the ground when pushing that hard and tracking)  its really hard on the heart when you walk underneath one that has doubledback on her track and she bails out of the tree right behind you.

What other uses is there for beaver's besides pelts? Me and the girl are gonna get into trapping at the end of this year.

The castor glands are sellable for and can be used to attract other beaver, the oil sacks as well.  Most places/people that buy pelts will buy these as well. 

Some folks eat the tail and the carcus meat is supposed to be very flavorful and rich tasting.

Interesting. I know a few places where beavers are abundant to. Ill probably start there and let the trees have a chance to re-grow. They do so much fricken damage....

Just in case you didnt know beavers can only be trapped.  Dont go out and start shooting them.

I raise domestic rabbits for meat.  I sell them for $2 per pound live weight.  You could check craiglists for meat rabbit breeders in your area.  Hides heads feet and guts would probably make a great bait pile.  I also have unlimited rabbit urine and manure.   

Every predator like rabbit.

I was suggesting rabbit as an alternative to beaver if you could not find any.
