another vote for the Savage...as I always do with any rifle, check the barrel channel and ensure it's free floated and invest in a $20.00 bedding kit and bed the action, you'll be amazed at the improvement in your group sizes.

Willie, I have a new savage model 10, in 243 with accutrigger that I bought for the exact same purpose. You can borrow and try out if you want...love the Savage.

As much as I like my remmy's Id stay away from the 770. They cut alot of corners on that design to compete with other makers enconmy models. The Savage has a great deal or options that are already included with the rifle. Owner adjustable trigger, pillar bedded, free floated etc. I would also agree with the reccomendation on the Howa, and add that the Stevens offer all that the Savage do except the Accutrigger. Hope this helps you out.

I really hate the feel of the action of the Remington 770s, they feel like a toy.  Between those two choices, I would definalty go for the savage.  Although if I was looking for a lower-priced rifle, I would look at the Weatherby Vanguard.  I love mine...I think they are right about 400 right now.

So now what is the difference between the Savage 110 and Savage 111 other then scope and stock?

Savage.

I really like Remington rifles overall but I think they screwed the pooch w/ the 710 and 770.

I'd go with a 7mm-o8, very fast, you can shoot lite gr. bullets and up to bear and elk size game bullets.
