Flukes in Otter Scat?
« on: September 23, 2013, 10:11:47 AM »
I'm seeing these fluke looking things in otter scat on Lake Washington.  What in the hell are they?  Are the otters eating them on purpose?  Are they in the fish they eat?  Do they infest the otters too?  Do humans need to worry about getting these things through eggs or other means

Yep--saw some in the poop of my buddy's Brittany that I was baby sitting years back.  That's why animals have to be wormed periodically.  I used to have to take a stool sample for analysis when I took my dog in for her annual checkup.  Horses are especially wormy critters.  I think the eggs are in the grass that they eat.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Does WDFW want to know about this (is this where trappers provide disease data points to WDFW?) or is it completely normal?  That's a lot of worms for any animal to excrete at one 'sitting' and it can't be healthy.
