I usually see hard horns in the last few weeks of Aug. first week of Sept. on the whitetail and I have a spike blacktail I see daily in my yard and he is still full velvet. I'm pretty sure that's normal.
$5 is a lot of money if you ain't got it

Mostly velvet still for the deer, and that's normal.   I see about 50% on my hunts in the high country the first week of September.

Posted this on another thread but checked my camera yesterday and had this bull thrashing a tree in a effort to loose the velvet.

I'm on the Eastside and as usual. The bucks just disappear from the cameras for 10 -14 days and returned hard horned. I haven't had a buck pic in 7 or so days.  They move from the big open sage flats and fields to the canyon bottoms where the trees and brush are heavier/thicker to rub their velvet off.

I like that!  That means they should be done coming opener Sep 1st   I rather kill a bear and Elk in Sep and wait till late season for deer but I'm not picky  :chuckle: :chuckle:

I would love to see a picture of a hard horned buck from early July.

This is a couple of different bulls, you can see the first one in velvet on the 11th and then on the 13th he's got bloody velvet hanging. The second bull is hard horned on the 15th. They sure look smaller without the velvet.

It is amazing how much apparent mass the velvet adds.  We are all velvet here still.  I think it is the last week of August when they usaully peel here.

I have video of the 5x5 sparring with a bigger bull on the 12th. Both are velvet free.
