Anyone see bear in the Mt Rainier area?

Heading out in the morning with my girls pops to try and stick a bear. He thinks he knows some places in the Mt Rainier area but I just want to get a confirmation people have actually seen some.

Lots of berries around 4 to 5 thousand ft now, look for the food, good optics and lots of patience. Good luck

Hey Smossy, that place I PM'd you for rabbit is a great place to check for bears. If I wasn't in the process of training a new lab, that  is where I would be.

Keep this in mind, many of us that spend a ton of time in the woods don't usually see bear. When your reading these bear stories on this site remember, it's not normal to see a bear when you go bear hunting, it just isn't as easy as it seems. When guys talk about seeing 2 or 3 bears in a day and missing 1 and getting 2 more the same day, that just means it was a bait station and that's the only time you see 3 bears in one day unless its spring bear. I'm not against baiting but it funny how many bears are being seen and killed in one day around here, it's not the norm to see that many bears boot hunting. Your also trying to kill a bear the hardest way, bow with no bait on a boot hunt! I hope you whack monster!

I understand, Im not expecting to fill any tags, but like I said. I just want to know there is atleast animals in the area. "I know I should be scouting" But Its kinda something her pops been wanting to do for awhile now because he never gets a chance to get out being as hes a long haul truck driver, is only ever home at like 5 or 6 days a month if that. Plus I need to get out and get a feel of being a predator.

if you can get up around cyspus and hike up to blue lake, you will be in business, i have seen a few bear up there in the spring, the fall is a whole other can of worms unless you can bait, which we cant  which i miss more than a person can know  but also if you head up there bring a fishn rod and a couple black rooster tails and of course a few night crawlers, you can bear hunt and fish all at the same time, good luck dude

Did 180 miles through various service roads. Some that probably hadnt been touched in numerous years, full overgrowth.. Hiked a few miles, sat on a peak and did some predator calls, nothing showed up. Wind was in our favor but the heat was not. The masquitos were holy cow... Didnt know they could be so thick... Seen 3 nice blacktails. One with her button buck kiddo. Four elk, two of which were kiddos. Probably 700 yards away and spit out a few cow calls I got from elk101... stopped them right in they're tracks and they looked right at me.. such a cool experience. Seen dozeens of grouse, probably 10 or so red headed vulchers. No bear though

Also, to add to that. We found someones bait site. "Blue Barrel, Sides cut out with deer pellets". We first seen it and were gonna destroy it thinking It was a bear bait site, Popped the top off, then noticed the side was cut out. Big relief. I was gonna be pissed. Hate poachers. So after putting the top back on. Started to look around, noticed its probably been there for years. Wire that was holding it to the tree was basically overgrown by the trunk. Game trails around it were like full on paved style from so much traffic. Lots of fresh bear sign in about a 10 foot radius. Could see paths broken out all the way around it. So if you see me on your trail cam, lets see them pictures, I wanna see how good my camo looks.

I've seen 5 different bears on one hillside in the Olympics I don't think it's entirely unheard of

trophy wasnt saying it isnt possible, its just surely not common, without bait bear huntn is pretty dang tough. i do wish we could have baiting back, it was the best way to hunt bear and also it cut down on moms with cubs being shot or cubs being shot....of course there were always the guys that their bait station looked like a garbage dump, those types should have their hand lopped off

you don't know anything about me so ill try to explain. I have killed 3 bears in the very same huckleberry patch in consecutive years in the high country. I have killed a bear w dogs and killed bears on Bait when it was legal. So, I do know what bait is. Bait is a ton of work and takes time, money, and experience to be successful. It's not as easy as putting a doughnut on the ground and waiting.   It's funny, ever since I've been on this site around the opener of bear season, people post pics of their bear kills, sometimes within minutes of legal light. Ill say

Lol whoa lots of bickering, Ill find a bear, Not worried about it really. I was just going out with someone who hasnt been to the area's he thinks he knows in over 10 years. Alot can change. When I get enough money for gas, I Will fill my bear tag.

I wasn't starting a bickering war what so ever I'm just saying once you find good area you'll be surprised how many you'll see using/ or signs of use once ya get on there patterns. And no trophy I don't know you, but am happy to hear about your experiences tho. Guess I'm just getting to the part of ya a lot of first day stories but I guess those people were in the right spots at the right times and I just don't like how people assume that when your seeing a few bears in a day it's automatically a "bait station" or if a few bears are shot in one hole... Bears are for sure a boot animal, walk a lot you'll be successful and you may get lucky and find a few bears in one spot. I'm sure smossy will tag a good ol bear and I hope he's got a story and pics for everyone.

-Just to clarify, my DAD has tagged out almost every year, and is tops when it comes to hunting.. however, my big-hearted step-dad who is trying to help - definitely hasn't been out in a while lol. Either way, I'm sure that was a learning experience for you both going out and seeing all the gates
