Bear Down... I've always wanted to say that!
« on: August 21, 2013, 09:48:38 PM »
Determined to find a bear I decided to cover ground this evening. This is my first bear and also with my new rifle! No range finder needed here, I came around a corner on my bike and sure enough spooked a bear right off the trail I stopped quick and lucky for me the bear climbed the nearest tree and stopped about 10' up. I already had my rifle ready. I waited to see if any other bears were around because I new it was a little on the small side. I didn't see or hear anything else so I stepped forward to clear a branch and put the cross hairs where they needed to be and it was over. From where I stood to the recovery at the base of the tree was 10 strides. I then loaded it up on the pack frame and rode the mile and a half back to the truck. I'm happy with the experience everything went good and the meats now all boned out and on ice. First time in this new section...kept telling myself find the food source... also go where you haven't been and it all paid off.

Thank you guys so much! I have learned a lot from many people on here. Just reading and listening. I've been out 6 times this year and each time prior I have always been focused on checking my cams for deer season and prepping those site. couple tips that came last night reading here on hunt WA were, leave your cams alone let them do the work you put them there to do. I'm not saying don't be excited about them especially when you're getting big bucks coming in but this was the first trip I focused all on bear. I decided to pack lite and also the other bit was to get away from the pressured areas. This was a new area I had not explored so I told myself just cruise through that way you know what's there also the other tip from hunt wa Find the food source! Last tip don't give up guys the bears are there. I was really liking this new area and told myself I'll have to walk these road slowly someday. I was on the way back out to set up somewhere for the rest of the evening and started thinking I'm going to pick up the pace a bit as I'm riding the bike I wonder if I could jump a bear....That was seconds before I encountered the bear this evening. Got to the gate @ 4:15, shot the bear @ 5:45, and was back to the truck pulling away at 6:58!! Thanks again
