So I saw this small bottle of liquid sweet smell at cabelas.is using this considered baiting? I have seen many different styles of baiting in videos and all over the web and this wasn't one.the guy at cabelas said it wasn't but seems in here most of y'all are the experts.

Id say that's a form of baiting, ANY form of attractant/bait that would bring a bear in is illegal from my understanding.

I asked the game warden about that at the outdoors men show in Puyallup and he said it's baiting.  You can buy it here to hunt in other states he said

Get rid of it as quick as you can. I know someone personally who lost everything but his truck and the bottle was still in the package, in his truck. They aren't winning completely in the case, after 3 yrs now,but why chance it. It's Bait.

The problem is that most employees don't know or understand the WAC's. Next time you go to Cabelas I would take it back and ask for a refund. I have found them to be very reasonable with refunds.

Actually, when its in the truck and your hunting, then its illegal to posess. No room on this one. That is the jist of the story, I am not and cannot tell you details. All I am saying is why chance it?

There is NO WAY having that in your truck, hunting or not, that you can be charged with anything illegal.  That would be like saying if your hunting and you have a dog in the truck your illegally hunting with dogs, or if your hunting and you have a bag of feed in the truck your baiting, you cannot get in trouble for having this in your vehicle.  I can have all kinds of bear bait, and have done so, driving through WA, on my way to bait bears in ID.  That would be like syaing you have traps in your truck and your illegally trapping.  Sorry but ain't buying it.

There has to be more to this story, for instance, how did they come to know there was a bottle of bear lure (apparently still packaged), in the truck in the first place?

Sounds like this is still working its way through the system by the OP's comment about it being 3 year's now and they aren't winning completely.

Maybe at some point when it finally gets resolved, the involved person will come on here and tell us the details?

I will ask if he will do that. I am not privy to all info in this case either. He is winning, GW was wrong somehow. There is alot more to it tho, you are right. I just dont wanna cause any issues by someone thinking I know it all. I just speak from the experience I do have. If you wanna jump on me for that then go ahead.

Good point. I wouldn't be shooting bears off my deer bait still tho. Sounds like a good warden. The feed isn't placed there to specifically attract bears...

Stick to apples. The bear...err, I mean dear love em. So do the elk. Totally legal to bait deer and elk with apples.

So with that in mind, the lure wasn't thrown out to catch the native fish, so go ahead and keep the wild one, because I was really fishing only for hatchery fish?

I would almost think the the WDFW officer was either setting me up for a bust later or just didn't know what he/she was talking about...
