Maybe bc it was in the truck while hunting.  Would be hard to prove he was using it or not.  I asked the game warden after I bought it from sportsmens warehouse.  The funny thing is they told me it was fine to use.  Last time I listen to them

There is no wiggle room on bear baiting.

Just bring bacon and maybe a donut for lunch don't wrap it up just shove it your pocket.  If the bears come to you its just your lunch right.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

The problem is that most employees don't know or understand the WAC's. Next time you go to Cabelas I would take it back and ask for a refund. I have found them to be very reasonable with refunds.

There is no wiggle room on bear baiting.

NONE

Get rid of it as quick as you can. I know someone personally who lost everything but his truck and the bottle was still in the package, in his truck. They aren't winning completely in the case, after 3 yrs now,but why chance it. It's Bait.

Theres gotta be a little more to that story..

 :yeah:

Can't imagine the stuff is illegal to possess. . .

Actually, when its in the truck and your hunting, then its illegal to posess. No room on this one. That is the jist of the story, I am not and cannot tell you details. All I am saying is why chance it?  :twocents:

Great thread!  Thanks to the OP and for the information in the responses.  I read about honey burns in a book and thought that those sounded like a good idea, but fortunately read this thread before trying it.

There is NO WAY having that in your truck, hunting or not, that you can be charged with anything illegal.  That would be like saying if your hunting and you have a dog in the truck your illegally hunting with dogs, or if your hunting and you have a bag of feed in the truck your baiting, you cannot get in trouble for having this in your vehicle.  I can have all kinds of bear bait, and have done so, driving through WA, on my way to bait bears in ID.  That would be like syaing you have traps in your truck and your illegally trapping.  Sorry but ain't buying it.

Spot on right here... heck i buy bait in wa and drive it to idaho too. Maybe we are guilty of illegally trafficking illegal bear bait across state lines... we best check with a warden.. lol  :chuckle:

I know a guy that was feeding the deer and bears were coming in eating the deer feed. He asked the Game Warden if that was baiting bear, the Game Warden said, NO. You can shoot it since you're not baiting bears. Different interpretation of the law.

There has to be more to this story, for instance, how did they come to know there was a bottle of bear lure (apparently still packaged), in the truck in the first place?

Sounds like this is still working its way through the system by the OP's comment about it being 3 year's now and they aren't winning completely.

Maybe at some point when it finally gets resolved, the involved person will come on here and tell us the details?
