Randle/Packwood area late season
« on: October 24, 2008, 12:29:25 PM »
Im looking at huntin in the randle packwood area in the late season.  Just curiois if anyone could give me any pointers.  I will be hunting for deer and elk.  Is there always snow down low in the late season?  This is my first year bow hunting so im thinking I will learn alot in the late season and hopefully kill something.  Anyways any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

don't believe there is a late archery elk hunt in the packwood unit. i  might be wrong...but i'm pretty sure the packwood unit is early season elk only.

I was thinking about spending a few days in the winston.  I have heard tons of hunters!! I guess thats true of any unit, but I have heard of good success in Winston.  I definantly will be trying one if not both units for something different.

I'd pick Winston/Ryderwood/Willapa hills over Randle, but thats just me. Always fun to check out new areas. Seems like I'm checking out a couple new areas every year.

My advice is regarding Randle is to call the manager of the Cowlitz Wildlife Refuge. He/she should be able to give you pretty timely info on places they've seen animals recently.
