Well, that's why I see no percentage in paying someone to guide me to hunt properties that are just down the street from my house, which is far from the edge of the wilderness.
Sometimes its not the guide you are paying for but rather access to the land they have locked up. :twocents:

This is my favorite line from his website: "The fearless leader of Barbour Outfitters, Shane founded the company with a love for the outdoors and a passion for hunting. His experience and excitement for your hunting excursion ensure your success."

Did you edit that? If not, I'm impressed by the grammar and spelling, if nothing else.

Doesn't sound too much like a excursion. :dunno:

I'll admit to hunting with these guys last year....

After a long fire closure, Hancock reopened for about a week just before muzzy elk.  I did as much scouting as possible during this short window, and was regularly seeing elk in a certain clearcut in the evenings.  Went back opening morning of muzzleloader and they had closed it up again the night before - not to reopen until after the season ended.

After a lot of preparation for my first year of elk hunting and no time to figure out a new area, I called Shane and arranged for a 2 day hunt.

I was not successful, but others in the party were.  There's not much "guiding" involved in situating a hunter in someone's backyard.  It's basically overpriced access to some semi-domesticated animals.

As my previous reply to this post has been deleted, I will re-post with just the facts.
Shane Barbour took my deposit, played the cancel and re-schedule game with me, wanted the balance before hand then canceled again the same day. I immediately canceled the check I had just written him, and called to tell him so- At which point he took it to Ace Cash Express in Tacoma and cashed it through a friend that worked there, without verifying it with my bank. Therefore he was paid for a service he NEVER provided. And to top it off, for the past 4 years Ace Cash Express and their collection company has been trying to get me to cover the bad check since my bank would not honor it.

What a joke.  The guy got screwed by a guide. Why is everyone afraid to say it. Make sure that joke of a guide stays on the west side. I feel for the girl.

I sure wish I knew what I know now before I gave him money and made my daughter not want to finish out the season. That's what I'm most upset about losing her desire to hunt. Some people you only get one chance to make a good first impression. She's one of those that's why I went with a guide

Dont give up. I am sure she will come around. try and put something together at an other time wether it be a hunt with family or a group of friends. or even a outfitter with a better rep.
