scoped guns on atvs
« on: September 24, 2013, 10:10:17 PM »
so decided to run some lead down my rifle before deer season, and i was all over the place.  turns out i had screws loose on my scope and on my rail.  only thing i can attribute this to would be too much vibration from my quad rattled *censored* loose.  i know another guy who had same thing happen to him two years ago and he missed a monster buck because of it.  has anybody else had and successfully fixed this problem before?  ive tried the standard padded rifle mounts for atvs, and also a nice scabbard that ive been strapping down to my rack.  looking for a better idea so this doesnt happen again.

Maybe try using loc-tite on your screws. I put a lot of miles on my 4 wheeler with the rifle in the rack and never had an issue.

that is a good idea.  you know now that i think about it, me and the other guy i know both have the exact same atv, just mine is one year newer.  maybe they just vibrate a little more than some others.

Clean the screws with rubbing alcohol to strip any grease or oil. Use a drop of blue loc-tite or nail polish on each screw before you tighten them down.

They should never come loose (until you want them to) again.

Make sure you are happy with that scope on that firearm prior to using loctite. I have a buddy who can't get his scope off.

I either sling my rifle across my back (or front if riding double) or strap my rifle on top of my pack on the rack.  that way it's cushioned

Have a Bushnell zoom scope on my coyote killer. Love it!
