Remington 742 Iron Sites
« on: August 31, 2013, 10:39:25 PM »
OMG >:(
I just spent almost 2 days hunkered down in a tent hoping the tarps would keep everything from getting wet, only to go out for 3 hours in the evening (beautiful btw) to find out that somewhere in the last 2.5 days I managed to LOSE my rear site................ :mgun:
Came home 2 days early...........looking for the best fix................QUICK...........then I am going back.
Anyone have either original iron sites for a Remington 742.......or a quick cheap optical fix I may be able to employ?
I was SOOO close this week.......once the rain stopped.......He was there.........I could feel it............I did find some shizz. Berries
It was just one of those weeks....... :P

Emergency has been dealt with.
No one responded to my ad anyway.
Found entire rear sight on eBay for $15.99 until (IF) I get outbid.
Seller wouldn't just sell it to me, or put up the Buy It Now option.....so auction ends in 4.5 days.....if I win then its another 5-7 days for delivery.
This morning I went to Welcher's Gunshop........64th and Pacific in Tacoma. First "kid" I talked to couldn't help me much.....looked through the NEW bagged parts for something made in '62.......ok.....found nothing and walked off.
Took it to ROBERT.....He ALWAYS hooks me up.....He said follow me.......went in back corner.....close to where the kid had looked....and dug out a box of old used parts.......3 seconds of digging......and GUESS WHAT?
Identical set of sights
Missing some screws and the elevation wedge..........but I had all that already. Put the two together......hour later I am on the range.
Set the sites by eye at home......first shot at the range......25yrds.....1.5 low......1.5 right............second shot......100yds.....1 in hi right........and I am blind as a bat......42 shots later..........I got 5 in the rings @ 100......and figure I am sighted in well enough for my vision.
NEXT SEASON we going for some GLASS

If you ever need anything else, look up Greggs Bear Creek Guns in Selah. Very nice gunsmith and will fix you up with what you need.

Well thanks for the heads up. I am going back out for 5 days. You never know what might happen. Eventually I will be putting some optics on this thing. Not sure I really like it as a wet brush gun....but I am still checking that out. When I bought it, the forums I saw said to use little if ANY oil......oil attracts dirt, dirt clogs up the semi-autos.....but no oil allows rust....rust stops those semi-autos too. So I am trying my own way with this rifle and we shall see. I can see my NEXT rifle being vintage also.....we shall see 8)
