gut pile at the gate...

when I parked tonight at one of the gates I hunt behind there was a pretty fresh gut pile. it was from a doe as there was a flap of skin laying there with nipples. The weather was PERFECT for my evening hunt tonight and nothing came in. I thought for sure I'd see something. Didn't even get a snort wheeze.

any chance with the recent gut pile the deer in the area are all holed up?
It's a pretty long ways from the gate back to where I was hunting the area.

Gut piles don't scare deer,  the activity of the hunters in the area may have them a little skittish but they don't care about another deer' s innards.

I guess I was more so thinking that the act of someone harvesting a deer and yarding it out of there, may have some effect on how active the rest of them are for a day or two.

I've seen deer sniffing around a gut pile no worries there in there try and hit the am. If the big cat is back it will be dead for a couple days in there.

I've watched them sniff and nibble at a gut pile before.  I've also watched them lick the ground where I pee'd an hour before, presumably for the salt.

I'll be back in there early next week but won't have time for morning hunts until elk is over. silly Job gets in the way of hunting.

After reading that I'm not worried about gut piles. I have a buddy who says if he goes to park at a gate and a gut pile is there he will go somewhere else.

Unless you're predator hunting, don't sit on the gut pile but really, they shouldn't be avoided for fear that they'll scare off the deer

I would be more inclined to hunt behind a gate with a gutpile cause that means theres animals back there and people are gettin into them! hahaha

When I lived in 121 unit  Ilived on a big falfa field avg about 80 deer a night in it with 25-30 of them being bucks and 5-10 of them being over 4.5 yr old. The farmer got depredation doe tags every year in Aug.. the hunters didnt tromp around in the woods they were not allowed to, they sat in the hay barn. The first doe to hit the dirt and I would see another buck in that field in the daylight till next spring and this happened every year.
