good way to call a bear

I recommend a call made by hand from bacon.  Or donuts.

I agree, this is the perfect way to call bears.  However effectiveness may vary depending on the quantity of bacon consumed at breakfast!

The problem with an app on your phone is it's probably not going to be loud enough to really cover an area.  If the bear is close it most certainly can work, but you are much better off buying a good quality call.

thats funy, i thought the same thing, but if you look in the regs, it specifically says you canot use electronic calls for deer or turkey, but it makes absolutely no mention of electoronic calls for elk being prohibited this year.

Fine Tooth the regulations and you would really be surprised what you can do. Night vision, artificial lights, baiting, etc.....crossbows....just make sure you know what you are doing, where you are doing it, and when you are doing it, what you are hunting makes a BIG difference.

dont know him.  work for different company.  ill tell ya tho, wainwright was a trip.  never been that far north.  we were on a buoy there and were watching a giant pod of belugas having a feeding frenzy couple hundred yards off our barge, and i said man, if the natives see this, all hell is going to break loose.  sure enough, first coiuple skiffs came out, started shooting at them, and before ya know it was a dozen or so skiffs out there circling and shooting, driving them all into the shallow water at the beach.  they ended up killing about 60 belugas.  was pretty crazy.  whole beach was lined with bloody beluga carcasses.  you know theyre white, but after they were killed they were all bright pink.  were so many they were using a loader to put the carcasses in dump trucks, and i guess they not only got enough to feed the whole village but outlying villages as well.  they said they hadnt gotten that many whales since 1948.  my guess is thats because of the almost constant thick fog

so were kind of thread jacking i guess, but hey, 60 dead whales would probably be a good way to call a bear too?  just saw 9 brownies eating 3 walrus carcasses on the beach too so im thinking they like marine mammals

I've heard stories of guys using reed elk calls by biting the reed up and down in an effort to mimic a rabbit's call.  I've used that tactic a couple times, but no use.  It sounds good, but that's all I know.

I use a primos makadabullcrazy cow call to mimic a distressed rabbit during predator season. My results are similar to yours though.

For calling coyotes we let it run for five minutes.  A couple of silence, and then ramp it up again just slightly louder. 
I don't know the calling sequence for bears, but it seems like it should work.  I know that different species you should sit longer than others.  ie if you're calling cats you should sit for an hour, while if you don't get coyotes by 20min you need to get up and move.

I got my bear this last weekend using my fawn in distress, non stop almost an hour to the min. and he came in.its my understanding that if the call stops they stop coming in.He went all the way up to the call smelled it.never freaked out just kinda started to meander around i watched him for a few minutes (in case it was a female with cubs) before i shot.

I called a bear into the yard at my folks the evening I bought my Ki-Yi.  Took 20 minutes and he came in hot huffing and snapping jaws.  Unfortunately it was January, and 10:00 at night... but I'm looking forward to trying it next weekend in the woods.  Thought I will probably call for an hour at each position.
