Cow elk success updated pics
« on: September 06, 2013, 08:12:24 AM »
Well after taking a day to get things back on track from my deer we decided to brave the storm and do an evening hunt. To say weather was bad could not even explain. Lightning, thunder right over our heads all evening and rain that would fill a lake.
Got to our area and my brother and i split up. Checked out my first meadow area with no fresh sign or response on a call. So decided to head up to another zone. On my way got a text from brother that he had called in a spike to 30 yards. To bad he wasn't legal. So i kept going. Made it to where i wanted and started seeing some good sign. Let out a few cow calls and nothin. So sat a bit and bugled. Nothing. Walked about 30 yards and let out another cow call followed by a chuckle. Then another spike walks out at close to 30 yards. Just our luck. It starts to meander of and then a cow walks in at 52 yards. Fog and rain made things tough but i am very confident in taking the shot. Standing broadside i squeezed the shot off and heard it hit. It took off straight down. Gave it a few and went down and found the blood trail as well as a third of my arrow broken but covered in blood. Followed stumbling tracks and blood for 60 yards and there she was. A monster cow down in the lightning storm. Had it out of the woods in 3 1/2 hours. Pics will be posted in a while when i get them on the computer. But the season has started off great.
