Big Bend late archeryBuck tag
« on: September 12, 2013, 09:59:59 AM »
So I drew the late archery buck tag in the Big Bend and curious if anyone has hunted this tag...I'll do my scouting etc. Just wanting to know what ya'll thought and what size bucks I'm going to be looking at...A lot of forky's or 3pts or is there reasonable chance for a big buck...not wanting to waste a lot of time scouting for forky lol.

Mostly private land but there is some public scattered around.  Lots of little forkys running around big bucks are there but most are on private land and this time of year all the ranchers will be full up for the season.

Pretty accurate, lots and lots of private lands with limited public land. Those ranches are nearly impossible to get access to, if you are not family or a close friend you will have very little chance of getting permission. The bulk of the bucks will be 2 points too, the nicer deer will be on the private lands.

That's what I figured....only 10 tags issued for this hunt and I had 3 points so I thought why not try a limited entry area thinking I had little chance to draw since 8 was average. Guess I was wrong, so now I get to learn a new area.
Wondering what its like along the Columbia river or Banks lake Breaks?

I hate to sound negative, but this one VERY tough  tag.  Few bucks.  Rarely a buck of any size. Lots of private.  Tough open conditions, especially with the big fires last year.  Even if this was an open season hunt, I bet the success rates would be under 3%. :twocents:  Best of luck though.

Honestly I hardly went up to look for a bull in Margret. Ive glassed a few decent bulls that would push 300 but it was from a distance....life and work kinda got in the way. I will be up this Saturday thru the 22nd. Ill post pics of a biggin hopefully
