Called in my first yote!
« on: August 21, 2013, 08:25:36 PM »
Went out thi s morning out in the Okanogan forest, had the dog with me and just went on a hike looking for some deer. Found a nice area I thought I would sit down and glass for a while, wel I got bored. I started making some distress calls with just my hand lips for a few minutes, I tried a bunch of different stuff, I don't know exactly what I am doing but I had the gist of it. So any way after about 10 minutes of calling I see a gray face looking at me from about 100 yards away, I keep calling and  he kept coming. He was trying to be sneaky but I had my eye on him. When he was about 50 yards away he started howling at me. I thought oh this is awesome, I wish I had my rifle  but I do have my cell phone, I will get some video (audio) of it. So I did, but you can't see it til I get back home next week.

Its just a shame I didn't have my rifle on me cause he woulda been ine dead dog!

Doesn't make the experience any less. Not shooting one really allows you to observe how it reacts and behaves. Use that against em when you're loaded up next time!

Great job, your hooked now.

Just a heads up, in WA it is illegal to have a dog present when hunting coyotes.  When you have a firearm along leave the dog in the truck.  Hacks me off, I hunt coyotes all over the west and everywhere but here my dog lies along side me on a stand.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Its a nasty crazy wonderful sickness haha. That looks like amazing area to call coyotes. A lot more open then the timber on the west side around here. Your set. before ya know it youll have 20 calls, a fuzzy motion decoy, coyote decoy, and everything else haha, just like me. I may get more crazy about deer or elk nowadays but calling coyotes to the gun will always be my first hunting love.
