.243 It's ALIVE!
« on: September 12, 2013, 07:03:04 PM »
Here are some pictures and data for those who are interested.

This is a parts gun with most of the components being used or stuff I had from leftover projects. The big money went to Benchmark for the barrel and the doner rifle came from a board member.

Older Remington 700 short action. Lapped, lugged and trued.
Benchmark 1/7.75 twist barrel chambered for 115gr DTAC bullets
Timney trigger
HS 700P stock
Killer Innovations bottom metal
Accuracy Itl magazine
OPS brake
Nightforce 20MOA base
Mullet scope
Kampfield customs fluted bolt and handle

I havn't had a chance to re-finish it yet, but was able to shoot it Sunday. The barrel needs to settle in and I have done zero load development, but it did shoot deep into the .3's at a 100.

Tell me more about the Killer Innovations bottom metal, my gogglefu must be weak.
I found their website, but no mention of BM, only scope rings.

You may be looking at the old website.

It's a Yelm company that is owned by a couple of friends. I help them from time to time with design stuff and I actually built the website for them just recently.

I watched this project develop from an idea to finished project, well almost finished. Matt is a gun and ammo encyclopedia. Ive learned a ton from him. As far as the .243 goes, it kicks less than a .22. You feel a bit of muzzle blast, but to stay on target down range is bad arse! Not gonna happen soon but I would love to build a similar project, also in .243. This gun has inspired me to do so. Its a blast to shoot, tight groups and a pleasure to shoot. A friend of ours was at the range and offered dang good money for it after putting 3 rounds down range. The Benchmark barrel is sharp. The Millet scope is a dream of a scope. And the Killer Innovations bottom metal is superb. Ive been in their shop and they are top notch. Their equipment is state of the art, producing only the best parts available. And built in state to boot. good job on a bad a$$ gun man!

It's all coming together! I'm excited to watch you draw blood. How many drinks will it take me to talk you into building me a bolt gun
You need to open a can of man, and a box of straws...

Everyone, thanks for the good words!

Bowhunter, I can't take credit for the group in the pic. That one was shot by a friend of mine.

And are they going to do any for the Savage Model 10 or !!0?

jeffro. I'll Pm you as soon as they are available. The parts are built, so I would expect something soon.

I'll mention the Savage.

I really do not want to ruffle any feathers around here, so until Killer Innovations is a site sponsor please PM me with any questions Re products etc.

Update with mostly worthless info....

I had a chance to shoot the rifle tonight in "real world" conditions.

540yds across a valley in under 5kt wind. Was able to hit a popcan size target with a little over 3 mils.......I'm pretty stoked.

We did recover the bullet and the Berger 105 vld hunting bullet had pretty good retention and weighs 90 gr now. Impact area was compacted clay and small rocks.
