Heavy Duty Fishing Gear Q?

I'm kinda looking for idear's on what kind of gear to buy for the more heavy duty stuff.
Sharks, Sturgeon, Large Halibut, Maybe Salmon. Something that's big enough to have plenty of line, yet versatile enough for smaller things like large kings.
Throw out some gear for me to start looking up because I have no idea as far as large/heavy duty gear and I'm looking toward a bait-caster.
Stupid River Monster's has me missing fishing already.

I have nothing. Only gear suited for salmon and thats even lightweight. 8-12lb lamiglass x11 with a pflueger purist reel.
Id mostly be fishing fromm shore. Maybe the occaisonal boat ride with friend. Something that could hold atleast a few hundred yards of heavier braid. Like I said. Just my salmon gear. Ive been wanting heavier gear for things like 6 gill size. With possible anchors on the reel for waist belts if ever needed.

I can't think of a do it all rod for all those things. A reel is gonna be a stretch also. An ugly stick tiger rod would work for mostall of the other species though excluding the kings. I have an okuma Catalina that holds a lot of line and has worked well for me.

Well maybe Im looking mmore toward the bigger stuff. Forget the salmmon I have them covered. Like sturgeon and 6 gill is more what im thinking. I see the 6 gill fishers using like 12 foot ugly sticks that are rated like 20-40lb. Seen 7 footeres caught easy with these. Just the reels i dont really know much about specially baitcasters

Depends on what you want to spend for sure.  The Shimano Trevala rods (Med-light 20-50lb) are excellent for big fish.  I bought a couple for use as Sturgeon "Keeper sized" replacements, proved their worth on several "OS" Sturgeon, so figured - try them in Florida for Tarpon and Shark- again proved they are up to big fish tasking's...  Halibut and big lings no problem...  Awesome Tuna bait rods too.   I did step up for the Heavy rod for full time OS Sturgeon and Shark fishing in Florida, but use the light ones more here in WA and full time for Tarpon when south....  I coupled them with Avet reels....  Tough combo rod to beat.  Although  for Salmon - would way too much of a rod - maybe just a meat rod at best... 

I got some Ugly Stick Tiger rods for sale with a Okuma 30 level wind star drag reels which will handle a lot of big fish if our interested. -- Combo at $80 with 80lb braid.

Crap, missed the part that you stated mostly shore fishing, not sure as that is nothing that I do, so I would assume something with a lot of length and back bone so it can cast the weight required to the spots your fishing.  I would check with guys that surf fish and see what they use. A heavy spinning reel has a lot of drag possibilities, some Penn Spin fishers 65 reels can obtain 35lb of drag.     I got one and a Fin-nor 60 set up on a couple Trevala med light spinning rods that I will use to throw bait at Tarpon and Mahi-mahi, and that set up hasn't been beat yet from a hard fighting beasts of the warm waters.  Maybe pair it up with a surf rod and your set...  Not going to get distance from a bait caster like you can achieve with the right set spinning rod system...

Casting isnt as important. For things like shark we would probably just paddle the bait out on a small boat and drop it. Fishing for 6 gill is closed I believe but I just want to know that I could if i found a pier that had it open or if the season for c&r ever comes around.
