Is it legal??
« on: September 13, 2013, 12:20:14 PM »
To use ducks like buffies, coot for cofidence decoys when goose hunting. A friend of mine said he was going to do it, I told him that I did not think you could put out decoys for something you are not hunting to attract them. Since it isnt duck season, is it legal?

As long as they are not caged ducks it is legal.
It would be no different then allowing mallards to hang out in your decoys and waiting for more to come in before shooting.

They also make plenty of decoys of birds that are not hunted but are a confidence builder for ducks.
You can even buy fake corn on the cob to use as a decoy even though baiting is illegal.

It's legal.  He can use whatever decoys he wants as long as they are not battery powered unless on tribal lands.  Will it work, let him find out.  I would probably mix some mallards in with the geese before I threw in the others.  I don't typically see buffies or coots with geese.   :twocents:

Im sorry a little confused on the question, are you asking if you can use a live bird as a decoy? If so then yes it is very illegal.

I didn't read that as a live "tame" decoy; I read it that he would allow "wild" ducks to stay in the deeks.

So if I'm out bear hunting and I using ceramic doughnuts as a decoy for the bears am I going to get a ticket?
