Buddy's Whidbey buck
« on: September 14, 2013, 05:05:14 AM »
This is friend of mine's deer, as I'm currently deployed, and wont get a chance to get out till late season, but thought you all would like to see this. Unlike me he tends to pass up deer after deer waiting for a "good" buck. The man has no shortage of dedication and patience.  the only detail i have gotten so far is he spent the entire day in the stand.

Nice deer  Bone I use to go to the island a lot and it really seems like there are 2 different kinds of deer on the Island, Little pint size yard apple eaters and then you see this really nice 4x4  :dunno: I was told years ago that Mule deer were brought there a long time ago to get better genes in the herd and that's these bigger deer you see. That's just what I heard no proof of that.

I helped him hang that thing. It was easily a 200lb deer. He is a pretty big guy and it was about as big as him. Real nice buck. He gave me the heart and I had it for dinner last night. Delicious! I also hunt on the island and the gentleman who allows me on his land (that his family has owned for over a hundred years) says that there use to be some sort of preserve with mulies on it. When they closed down they just set them free. Don't know how true it is but he is about 90 and knows a lot about the island.
