I got back last night from my first archery elk hunt.

Hunted a 3 pt minimum or antlerless area.
2 hours into the first day a nice 4x5 Roosevelt walked down a trail to 32 yards but didn't give me a shot.
That was the last elk I got a decent look at in four solid days of elk hunting.

Never heard a single bugle and never called anything in with cow calls. I didn't expect a lot of vocalization but I expected to maybe hear a bull once or twice when I was getting up at 0400.
Temperatures of 65 at night and 85 at day didn't help. It seemed like all the sign I found was a week old, not much super fresh. Everyone I talked to was equally baffled at the lack of elk compared to years prior. It sounded like they were higher than usual for September.
I'm excited for my first archery elk I just need to find the time to scout out some late season spots which is going to be tough but I suppose I'll make the time.
Anyway, to you elksperts, my hat is off to you.
