17 bands in one morning

We had an unbelievable hunt yesterday morning. Our group nailed 32 big ole honkers and 17 of them were banded. Up until this point the most bands I've ever seen in a hunt was 5. It was pretty crazy to be a part of. Gotta love the early season! The picture with my dog below is him sporting the "bling"

Are any/many of the band numbers consecutive?  I would guess that many of these birds were banded this year from a flock or two and they are still traveling together.

Nice job on the geese.

Guessing when the #'s get turned in there's going to be a biologist slapping himself in the head, wishing he had gone fishing rather than spent the day banding.  LOL

Hahah we were joking about that. The numbers were pretty sequential, obviously had been banded within the same batch. Probably banded within 20 miles or so of where we got them. Good luck this year everyone.

Sounds like a great hunt. Hope the 17 year old doesn't think that happens all the time.

17 year old? All of us hunting were 25-60. Definitely nothing I'll be expecting to experience again, unfortunately.  I still feel lucky when we get 2-3 a year.

They have been banding many of the resident geese in eastern WA to track their migration.  You guys put a dent into the 600+ banded this summer.  Your probably hunting close to one of the banding locations as well.  Good shoot!

Hopefully they get good info off the other ones.  Would be cool to know where the WA locals migrate to.  Last year I got one that was band in Olympia , Arizona, and Montana.  All shot over in Eastern WA.  Crazy to see how far they go and where they end up.  Makes them pretty impressive animals to consider the miles they log.
