East of Oroville we have a place on 20 acres that is within 3 miles of National Forest. It's interwoven with service roads and lots of old grown over spur roads that are more cow trails than anything else. It's a great area to walk in and find coverts of grouse. Last week we were over there and I got into several birds, most were starting to wise up and were flushing wild and out of range. Others held until I had passed them and flushed behind me. Finally, two birds made the fatal mistake of being in range and in the open. So I brought them home for dinner...

The leaves are changing fast, the tamarac are turning golden orange, and leaves litter the forest floor. I love this time of year...
