Well today I am holding hands with Pianoman. Right on.

A game agent in everyone of my HE classes brings this up. This goes on all over the place.

Hunter Ed or not young folks learn from example. This will keep happening till the game dept. makes it a violation to discard on public land.

Geese are over-populated. They cause issues on golf courses, in parks, airports, lakes, etc. They're like flying rats.

I agree people shouldn't dump carcasses where the general public is going to see them. However I can't blame someone for not putting them in their garbage can, just to be hauled off to the nearest landfill. In a weekend of goose hunting you could easily have enough goose carcasses to fill up your entire garbage can.

And as for the meat on the legs, in my opinion that's up to each individual hunter if they want to go to all the work of getting a few ounces of extra meat off each carcass. I don't care if they do or not.

As I said, there are too many geese as it is, people should be grateful there are hunters willing and able to help keep the numbers in check.

And that's the crux of the issue. No one says they have to fill up their garbage cans with them. However, I bet if they're willing to do what they did, they also left their spent shells lying about.

I don't see the greenies raising a stink about salmon carcasses...........

Looks like they pick and choose what they want to bitch about, screw em !!

As we're less than 4% of the population, it's more like screw us. We have to police our own ranks if we want to keep our hunting privileges.

..............and the greenies are less than 1/2 of 1% I bet and cause us all kinds of grief.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

the geese were only part of what was left.  There was also a pile of salmon.  It said they were gutted (does that mean gutted or filleted--can't tell with news anymore).  So at first I assumed pinks that were probably stripped for eggs; then read that the fish were between 10-15 lbs each.  Seems too big for pinks even with the huge run they are having over there, so likely silvers(?).   :dunno:  If someone would leave silvers I wouldn't expect them to take goose legs, but seems a bit weird---if anything take the fish fillets and leave the geese.  :o

So that means we shouldn't care about what we do in the public eye? The greenies have nothing to lose no matter what they do. We have everything to lose. Why is it so hard for you to grasp that our hunting privileges only last as long as the public at large sees it as a benefit to wildlife and conservation? If the greenies are perceived as unethical and thoughtless, all they lose is their credibility. If we're viewed that way, we can lose our hunting privileges and give the greenies back their credibility at the same time. This is not rocket science. Being obstinate for the sake of being obstinate is really dumb in our position.  :dunno:

I'm not at all concerned with the greenies.  I'm concerned with the other 90% of the population that will make the decision at the ballot box.

:yeah: It only took that 1/2 of a percent to post pictures of bear cubs being killed by hounds to get the majority of the state to vote against it.  (I think the dogs/cubs video was from Russia or Romania where 'bear baiting' is something different)

I don't know why you guys are picking on me. We will always be able to hunt, period. I personally could careless about greenies. I don't put up with their B.S. All they are is a bunch of terrorists. A little side tracking here. I worked on a complete green/eco friendly housing development near Monroe a few years ago hauling dirt for the contractor. Later that night. E.L.F. went in and burned some of the houses down because they THOUGHT it wasn't green/eco enough.

Hunting is not a right, CM. Just because you say it is doesn't make it that way. I'm just saying we need to be beyond reproach in our presentation and that way, when the eco-wackos start mouthing off, no one will listen. Not trying to pick on you, just the attitude that we don't need to care what people think.

Just wait for rifle season for deer and elk, then check out how many deer and elk carcasses are left right next to gates and trailheads.  I see it (or smell it) just about every year.

The worst is when they take the carcasses out there in garbage bags and just throw the whole bag out there with the remains in the bag.  Then dogs or coyotes, raven or whatever tear up the bags and scatter plastic and rotting remains all over the roadway.  It is pretty gross.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

No worries, bro.  You'll always be able to hunt, period.  I read it here.  Bank it.

Ask the houndhunters how that works....

Before all these insults lets look at DU and Delta recipes.  The vast majority that I see call for the breast meat only. I sure there is something that can be found on waterfowl legs but still the facts remain breast meat is only called for in most of these recipes.

http://www.ducks.org/hunting/recipes
http://www.deltawaterfowl.org/hunting/recipes.php

That should answer 3rz question the breast meat is about the only useable meat.

Sorry but I look at facts before opinion to do my best to answer questions.  If someone wants to make pillows out of the feathers or leg fatty stew thats awesome, but doesn't answer the question.

So if an elk recipe calls for the sirloin roast, does that mean it's the only useable portion of meat on the carcass?  Sorry, your logic is a little flawed.  It's the equivalent of tossing the shanks and shoulders on a big game animal.  No, they aren't prime cuts and may or may not be enough to get you cited for wastage.  It is, however, poor form when viewed by the eye of the non-hunting public, and is also a waste of useable and edible meat.

Like I said fact of what happens out there never use logic.  If this sport was based on logic there would be no hunting. The fact is money is what keeps this sport alive and rules keep changing to keep us buying everything needed for hunting.  For example this year possession limits have increased, why? Answer is money, now a west sider can come to a gun club on the east side for a nice 3 day waterfowl hunting trip without worry of breaking a law.  The thing that could be the future for hunting is draw but that is the worst case scenario.  State makes their money and gives out very few tags which seems the big game draw gets bigger every year.

About this sport is not animal activists to worry about, it is the hunters that end up throwing themselves and other hunters under the bus by using logic of OMG you don't eat legs of the geese your lazy.  They worry about boned out goose carcusses when hunters do the same with dear and elk or when I watch the news and hear a report of a car accident caused by an idiot that claims lives, I don't see these same people worried about their keys and saying that one person is going to blow our driving privilege for everyone.  They sure seem to worry about goose legs on the other hand.  Just don't let these animal activists make you believe what they want you to believe.
Don't read my post if facts hurt your feeling.

So you guys that don't eat the legs throw out the thighs and legs of the roasted chicken you get from Safeway?  And sorry turkeyfeather, throwing out turkey thighs is just stupid, it's 20%of the weight of the bird!   :bash:

Hdsht, if you look at most cookbooks under chicken recipes, you will likely see that "most" call for breast meat, does that mean that chicken legs and thighs are "worthless"?  Facts??  Now, I can see tossing the legs if you shoot a bufflehead or two during a day of duck hunting, however, anything bigger, why not have a bag in the freezer that you just toss the leg/thighs into and when you fill the bag, let me know and you can get them to me to enjoy.     Or, I can send you an awesome recipe for curried duck with onions and apples.  I brought a batch of these to a potluck where the majority were non-hunters and they got finished off, dang, no left-overs.

And as mentioned deer hunters tend to be just as lazy with their carcasses.  I've had to remove multiple carcasses from off the cement at the boat launch on the Chehalis River right by Borst Park, absolutely unnacceptable IMO, and there's no "H" in that!!!
