Best mileage yet!!! What's your worst and best...
« on: September 17, 2013, 07:52:17 PM »
Well it is time for new tires, they made it 67,800 miles in 2 years and probably have another 2-3k left- ok maybe that is a stretch.  #1 reason why I like Coopers the best and Discount Tires has the best prices around Washington.  They were on my 2500 Duramax.  So a new set of Coopers ST Maxx's are ordered up and should be here tomorrow or Thursday.  My best mileage before was from Coopers on my Ford 350 at 60K and they were the AT style and half the time was on snow pack in AK.  Worse mileage ever is from Toyo's (crap) MT's at 22K on my Duramax...  Slightly under a year and they were bald...

I think it is amazing the differences I hear about the Toyo MT's. I have ran them on 3 different trucks and have had excellent luck. All 3 sets have pushed the 70k mile limit. Unreal.  On the other hand My dad had a set and got just over 30k. Just weird. It is like they have material issues or something.

I had coopers on my F150, got exactly 100,000 out of them, could have made it a little longer, but winter was coming

I did before on the Ford, but have the ST Maxx, kind of their hybrid between AT and MT type.    Great ride, no tread noise and decent aggressive enough for the very limited off road stuff I get involved with, plus actually very good traction on snow and ice.    Got 4 - 285/75/16 with road hazard, for $1100 at discount.  (maybe repeat buyer discount) Les Swaub wanted $1600..

I started with Cooper years ago, when 90% of all haul road trucks in AK had them on, I did 8 trips up the haul road with Coopers and never had a flat, ever!  Unheard of for sure with 99% other trucks with different tires we buddied with for the trip...

I've got a '02 Toyota Tacoma 4X4.  The best I've got was early this summer with nearly 24 MPG.  The worst I've got with it was after a hard day of four wheeling with around 17 MPG.

Mileage on tires is VERY dependent on application. TOYO MT are NOTORIOUS  tires for wearing quickly on full sized trucks but getting great mileage on Toyotas and lighter rigs. Here is a little known fact. Michelin sends the highest % off gross rev on R&D Goodyear come in second.  Off the top of my head i think its 5% for Michelin and 3% for good year. BFG is a brand owned by Michelin.

My Brother is a logger and swears by Toyo M-55 That seems to be a really popular commercial style tread and casing design but  its not available in all sizes. My all time favorite is the BFG all terrain, and the 2nd would be the old MT design.  :twocents:

I have the st Maxx on my f150 and it is the best tire I have ever seen. Probably the best rock tire ever made. They are heavy but man I have taken my truck up some roads that I told myself I would never go up unless I was on a quad because of the rocks. I really believe the three ply sidewall is necessary for rocky roads. Also, these tires never chip on the rocks

Great info.  I'll definitely look at the Coopers for my next set.  My Bridgestones are

Wondering if anybody has ran Hankook dynapro MT's on there 3/4 or 1 ton trucks. I'm interested in what type of mileage you got out of them? And how about performance? I had Hankook ATM's on my last truck and they got great mileage and performed great for an AT.

I will also be looking into the Coopers as well before I order up the Hankook's, Thanks for the input!

Regards,
H&F

Best I had was Goodyear Workhorse 31-10.5-15 on my Toyota Tacoma.  No lie I had 110K on those suckers when I sold the pickup, rotated every 5k.  I have Toyo MT on my diesel F350 and at about 25K they look to be about 2/3 gone.

I have a couple of buddies that did good with the good year Wrangle duratrack on thier full size trucks. I have some tires like that on my Subaru that are rockin both good milage and great grip.

I have Cooper AT3's on my Duramax and love em. My old ATR's lasted near 80k

The Goodyear Duratracs are an excellent traction tire, but I wouldn't expect a lot of miles out of them if you drive much gravel.  Also, they don't come with a treadwear warranty where other all season tires do.

Where are you guys finding Cooper STs at Discount?  The closest Discount Tire for me is Spokane, and they only carry the Cooper Discoverer ATP and the SST.

After talking with the sales guy on the phone, I'm leaning really hard towards the BFG A/T.  He recommended it hands down over the Discoverer ATP.

I've put 150k miles on my truck on 2 different types of tires. Can't remember what the set was on it when I first bought it. First replacements I put a set of Toyo Open Country AT's and they were awesome but they were also $1300.00. I got close to 70k miles out of them. Now I'm running a cheap set of Goodyear Wranglers. They seem to be doing OK at probably 40k miles or so.
