......and don't kid yourself if you think an honest 160" buck is a guarantee with skill and patience during your hunt. :twocents:

If the biggest you've killed was an 18" blacktail you will be in for a surprise.  Most bucks will be bigger than that, spend some time looking at pics of muley bucks do you get a feel for judging them and what's big.

I have the same tag.  Get over their and scout during modern season.  You will learn the area, the animals will be pushed around.  New animals will be pushed down by weather hopefully during your season.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Pray for some snow.  That makes for an awsome hunt over there.  Ive hunted over there for about 7-8 years now its awesome country.  You will pretty much have the whole place to yourself for the late hunt.  Dont expect to much during the general season.  The hills look like a pumpkin patch opening weekend.  But by late tuesday tell about late thursday it gets noticeably quiter when the weekend warriors leave.  Good luck.

Welcome! That's also how I found hunting washington, Back in 07' my youngest son drew a youth moose tag for Spokane and I will say our success on that hunt came from the info I received here.

Thanks for all the welcomes and pm's I've received. Does anyone have a particular type or brand of map they recommend for the area? I know the areas I usually hunt, some are definetly better than others. Thanks

If your use to hunting black tales and this is your first muley hunt especially in the heart of the rut in that unit.... my advice is dont shoot the first one you see or the 2nd or 3rd or 4th or 5th or 6 th or 7th or 8th or 9th or 10th or 11th or 12th or 13th or 15th decent buck you see... cause the big boy could be around the next corner and that is the hardest thing with those tags..   if you can hold out you well have better odds in getting a dandy buck.. You well see lots of nice bucks...  :twocents:

these hunts are freaking hard to hold out on... Good luck!..  :llam:

I like a combination of Forest Service maps and USGS 7.5 minute quad maps.

Thanks, I'm hoping to spend some time on the maps this weekend. I was planning on some rifle time, but looks like it will be pretty stormy. I love hunting in the rain but it's not near as good for target practice
