Since the early season is almost over and I don't mind sharing since there are no "secret" spots in western WA, except for private lands that are small or near towns, I will give you my places. Someone else somewhere always knows of your "secret" place. Hunting is about sharing good times with family and friends or just escaping the "real" world for a short while in the true "real world". I will always try to help out someone. The kill is a far distant second or even third in my book. The Vail tree farm is the most hunted and turns out the most deer most years. Ok, enough mosts. Satsop and Wynoochie can be good the same way the Capitol Forest is. I don't hunt up north. Too many tree huggers. The OP is neat but I have not hunted out that way in years. Look for public lands and you will find lots of hunting pressure. Private lands have fewer hunters, but you have to walk or ride a horse or bike into them if they close the gates. If you hunt the Vail forest, hit the cuts. I hunt more on the 1000/3000 side then on the 2000. The 2090 road has some good areas too. But right now you can only walk into the Vail forest. The Wynoochie and Satsop are easy to access. Just turn up either Wynoochie Valley road or head towards the hills from Satsop and you will see the Weyerhauser gates. Some are green dot, others are yellow or red. Red means closed. Hunt the fringes near cuts and the cuts too. Glass with your binos, glass some more, then do it again. The rut is starting so deer will be moving around. Don't forget Ft Lewis either. You have to register to hunt on North Fort first, then call in the day before you hunt an open area. Areas 9, 10, 11, 12, 19, and 23 are good. Most of the other areas are good too, but tend to be closed more for training.
Just because I look big, dumb, and ugly doesn't mean I am. It just means I can stomp you for calling me it.

Welcome Ron, Not sure where you live but the best advice I can give you is to have a good pair of binocs and glass the units that have been logged a few years ago early on in the day and glass the reprod areas in the middle of the day. I have done very well with black tails this way. Alot of guys I know do extremely well with blacktails in the timber but this is somethin Ive never developed the patience for myself. Bottom line be patient do your homework and dont be too disappointed if you have stretches without seeing deer. The terrain is very challenging and these blacktails are top notch houdinis, but when you bag one you'll be hooked! hope this helps you out and welcome to the site.
If you dont like guns...DONT BUY ONE!!
