Did see two fat does on the private land on the edge of the rd about 100 yds after I left the state land. Go figure, huh.

At least you saw something.  I too drove the Scott Turner Friday after work.  Only saw grouse and a few guys shooting their fire sticks. Stopped at one of the gates near the top and walked in a mile or so but turned around after not seeing any fresh sign.   Ran into one other hunter on my way out after driving all the way to Ashford and back.

New to the area so exploring is fun but I sure would like to put some meat in the freezer.

Northcoast, That was me you ran into. We BS'd in the rain. Holler at me sometime and we'll just take one vehicle instead of two, LOL.

If you actually read the regulations for the discover pass areas its only if you park or use their trails that the pass is required. I drive through their crappy discover pass area and back into the areas where it isn't required. I usually have someone with me as well so if I do have to stop and go up a hill after I deer I'll just have them drive the truck around until I come back down.  :tung: to the DNR idiots!

Everything about that Discover Pass is a rip off the hunter/fisherman AND it's confusing as heck.

yes, the pass is only needed for parking in designated areas.

That is correct but you need to be aware that ALL DNR land is "designated."

Meaning that if you are parked on DNR land, you need the pass. There does not need to be a sign or anything else that says you need a Discover pass.

If you're parked on DNR land without the pass, you will be issued a citation. ($99 fine)

Sounds good.  You have better luck than I do so maybe it will rub off!

If you are caught driving the fine is double.

That's no longer true. You can drive through DNR land now, without a Discover pass. Just don't stop! If you park, the pass is required.

I've been out at pack forest last couple of days. Seen a few does but nothing in range. I've been seeing lots of deer sign but nothing is moving a whole lot. Had a close oppurtunity at a for this morning but I couldn't get a clear shot off. I've been hunting off of alder cutoff. Hopefully more action will start before it closes on the 8th!
